Risking Our Necks

Scripture

Greet Prisca and Aquila, who work with me in Christ Jesus, and who risked their necks for my life, to whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.

Romans 16:3-4 NRSV

Background

Priscilla and her husband, Aquila, shared their tent-making business with Paul, and Paul shared his ministry of the gospel with them. Since they all shared a profession and faith, they decided to work together. Priscilla and Aquila likely were mature believers in Rome before Paul met them in Corinth.

Prayer

Dear Lord,

During this time of the pandemic, thank you for the bravery of everyone who has “risked their necks” to save lives, provide food and essentials, deliver mail and packages, and care for our health and each other. May we celebrate our different gifts and learn from them. Give us the ability to understand each other’s perspectives and abilities so that we may further unify in Your service.

AMEN.

NCC’s 2021 Lenten Reflections follow the Committee on the Uniform Series plan for reading and studying the Bible. Each Wednesday, we will share the scripture from the week’s Sunday Bible verses. We call on each of us to reflect on these passages of scripture during the seven weeks of Lent in light of your own experiences and relationships.
