1 THE COUNCIL OF CHURCHES OF CUBA, THE LEADING INSTITUTION OF THE CUBAN ECUMENICAL MOVEMENT, is made up of 51 Christian and Protestant Churches and institutions – Protestant, Reformed, Evangelical, Pentecostal, Episcopal, and Orthodox – as well as Jews and Yogas, centers of study, information, community service and theological seminaries. Since its foundation in 1941, the Council has proclaimed unity for the service of our people and nation, through the search for love, justice and peace among peoples and nations, which are the most evident evangelical signs of the reign of God among us.
2 The establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States brought about a new era based on the new policies undertaken during the Obama administration. It had been the dream and struggle of many who also included churches and religions on both sides.
3 A path of respect and dialogue demonstrated hope to the world that once civilized relations are established bridges can be built and walls torn down. These agreements between both countries, the result of the work of many years and of several generations, had and have the support of the wide community of believers at national and global levels.
4 Today, June 16, President Donald Trump has announced another policy that involves a setback in a path that, although fragile, established clear steps in a strategy of coexistence where everyone could benefit and that promised a future of peace and understanding, not only between the two nations but for the whole region.
5 This policy, like others of this administration, does not respond to the wishes of the American people, whose visits to the Caribbean nation skyrocketed in 2016 and continues in the current calendar year expressing and confirming their desire to interact with the island.
6 Cubans and Americans can do much for our region and for humanity. It is not reasonable to enact laws or issue orders that prevent rapprochement and obstruct the will of our peoples. Neither must we, nor can we, oppose the Divine will that these two nations mutually benefit from their religious, cultural, educational, sport and scientific people-to-people exchanges.
7 This policy indicates a lack of information and knowledge about the Cuban reality: our history, sovereignty, and rights, as well as those of the people of the United States. It is divorced from the context of the time we live in today. This policy issues from a one-sided monologue that leads nowhere in the 21st century, when humanity calls for dialogue and the search for civilized solutions. We live in the era of dialogue, of mutual respect and two-way communication, in search for and construction of peace without which humanity will not be able to survive.
8 We are confident that this backward policy is not the will of the American people or of their churches and religions, which have always advocated peace, dialogue, and normalization of relationships. We also know that it is their will that the embargo be removed, as well as that of nations expressed year after year in multiple votes at the United Nations.
9 We express our gratitude to God and to all his sons and daughters as we continue to seek the lifting of the embargo and the search for solutions through dialogue and peace. Once again we call for unity in prayer, action in the hope of the abundant life to which Christ calls us.
10 We are members of the World Council of Churches, the Joint Alliance of Churches, the Latin American Council of Churches; in fraternity with the National Council of Churches in the U.S. and Church World Service; and companions in mission with many denominations, foundations, agencies, councils in the United States and throughout the world, which is of God. We are sure that together, with our prayers and actions, we will continue to break down the walls and lift the bridges in our pilgrimage for justice, peace, and love.
12 We are convinced that the present and the future belong to God and in that sense, He calls humanity to reconciliation so that we learn to love and forgive each other. The blockade must be removed, and Cuba and the United States must coexist in peace, respect, and dialogue.
13 May the Incarnate, Risen and Glorified Christ pour out and shower His grace upon Cuba, the United States and all the peoples on Earth, filling us with his blessing and his manifestation to all, guiding us along the paths of dialogue, justice, love, and peace.

1 EL consejo de Iglesias de Cuba, institución Líder del movimiento ecuménico cubano, integrado por 51 iglesias e instituciones cristianas –protestantes, reformadas, evangélicas, pentecostales, episcopales y ortodoxas–, además de judíos y yogas, también entre ellas; centros de estudio, de información, de servicio comunitario y seminarios teológicos; desde su fundación en 1941 ha proclamado la unidad para el servicio a nuestro pueblo y nación, a través de la búsqueda del amor, la justicia y la paz entre pueblos y naciones, que son las señales evangélicas más evidentes del reinado de Dios entre nosotros
2 Con el establecimiento de relaciones diplomáticas entre Cuba y los Estados Unidos se establecía una nueva era a partir de las nuevas políticas de la administración Obama. Había sido el sueño y la lucha de muchos entre los que también se incluían las iglesias y las religiones en ambos lados.
3 Un camino de respeto y de diálogo mostraba la esperanza al mundo, de que partiendo de relaciones civilizadas se podían construir puentes y derribar muros. Estos acuerdos entre ambos países, resultados del trabajo de muchos años y de varias generaciones, tuvieron y tienen el apoyo de la amplia comunidad de creyentes en niveles nacionales y globales.
4 Hoy 16 de Junio, el Presidente Donald Trump ha anunciado otra política que implica un retroceso en un camino, que aunque frágil, asentaba seguros pasos en una estrategia de convivencia donde todos podían beneficiarse y prometía un futuro de paz y entendimiento; no solo entre las dos naciones sino para toda la región.
5 Esta política como otras de la administración, no responde a los deseos de los estadounidenses, cuyas visitas a la nación caribeña se dispararon en 2016 y en lo que va del actual calendario expresando y confirmando así su deseo de interactuar con la isla.
6 Cubanos y norteamericanos podemos hacer mucho por nuestra region y por esta humanidad, no es lógico que existan leyes o resoluciones que impidan el acercamiento y esa voluntad de los pueblos. No debemos, ni podemos renunciar a lo que es la voluntad Divina de que, estas dos naciones mutuamente se beneficien de sus intercambios religiosos, culturales, educacionales, deportivos, científicos y del enriquecimiento pueblo a pueblo entre sus fronteras y otras muchas.
7 Esta política denota falta de información y conocimiento sobre la realidad cubana, nuestra historia, la soberanía y el derecho de este pueblo y del propio pueblo norteamericano. Se encuentra descontextualizada en el tiempo que vivimos hoy. Estamos, mas bien, ante un monólogo que no lleva a ninguna parte en pleno siglo XXI, cuando la humanidad llama al diálogo y a la búsqueda de soluciones civilizadas. Vivimos en la era del diálogo, en la era de la búsqueda y construcción de la paz sin la cual la humanidad no será capaz de sobrevivir.
8 Sabemos y estamos seguros que esta no es la voluntad del pueblo norteamericano ni de sus iglesias y religiones que siempre han abogado por la paz, el dialogo y la normalización de las relaciones. Sabemos también que es su voluntad que el embargo sea removido, al igual que la de las naciones expresada año tras año en múltiples votaciones en las naciones unidas.
9 Expresamos nuestra gratitud a Dios y a todos y todas sus hijos e hijas que seguimos y seguiremos buscando el levantamiento del embargo y la búsqueda de soluciones a través del dialogo y la paz. Una vez mas llamamos a la unidad en oración, acción en la esperanza de la vida abundante a la que Cristo nos llama.
10 Nosotros miembros del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias, de la Alianza Conjunta de las Iglesias, del Consejo Latinoamericano de Iglesias, hermanos del Consejo Nacional de Iglesias de los Estados Unidos y del Servicio Mundial de Iglesias. Hermanos y compañeros en misión de muchas denominaciones, fundaciones, agencias, concilios en los Estados Unidos y a lo largo y ancho de este mundo, que es de Dios. Estamos seguros de que juntos con nuestras oraciones y acciones seguiremos derribando los muros y levantando los puentes en nuestro peregrinaje por la justicia la paz y el amor.
12 Estamos convencidos que el presente y el futuro pertenecen a Dios y que en ese sentido el llama a la humanidad a la reconciliación, para que aprendamos a amarnos y perdonarnos. El Bloqueo debe ser removido, Cuba y los Estados Unidos han de coexistir en paz, respeto y diálogo.
13 Que el Cristo Encarnado, Resucitado y Glorificado derrame y haga llover su gracia sobre Cuba, los Estados Unidos y todos los pueblos de nuestra tierra llenándonos de su bendición y su manifestación a todos y todas, guiándonos por las sendas del diálogo, de la justicia, del amor y la paz.
