Rev. Dr. Tammy Wiens

Director of Christian Education and Faith Formation

Rev. Dr. Tammy Wiens is Director of Christian Education and Faith Formation. Among her primary responsibilities is oversight of the Committee on the Uniform Lessons Series (CUS), on which many denominational and commercial church-school curricula are based. Tammy also provides staff support for the Christian Education, Faith Formation, and Leadership Development (CEFFLD) Convening Table. As the CUS prepares to celebrate 150 years of supporting Bible learning, Tammy’s focus is to engage NCC communion partners in a fresh study and call to action with regards to the congregational practices and values that engage Christian learning and spiritual nurture across the life-span.

Prior to joining the NCC staff, Tammy served as a curriculum editor and associate for spiritual formation in the national offices of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).  She earned her doctorate in Christian Education and Congregational Life from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary in 2014. She also has graduate degrees from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, North Carolina State University, and Louisville Theological Seminary. Her education and experience have focused on the ways in which education and spiritual formation intersect in the church and the academy. Tammy, and her spouse, Rev. Dr. Sheldon Sorge, enjoy pooling their creative energy in composing and leading music and liturgy for the church. Their compositions have appeared in several publications, including the current Presbyterian hymnal “Glory to God.” Sheldon and Tammy are natives of Alberta, Canada and love spending time in the Rockies— by bike, by foot, or by golf cart.
