Scripture

“Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The Lord is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint,
and strengthens the powerless.
Even youths will faint and be weary,
and the young will fall exhausted;
but those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength,
they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint.”

Isaiah 40:28-31 NRSV

Prayer

God of hope, peace, joy and love we come to you in these difficult times to seek your direction. We pray for the peace in this battle against deadly disease and the healing of all the people of the world. We ask for your guidance toward unity of purpose. Amen

-Rev. Dr. Carmichael Crutchfield, Clara Scott Chair of Church and Ministry and Professor of Christian Education, Spiritual Formation, and Youth Ministry, Memphis Theological Seminary

Thank you for participating in our weekly invitation to prayer. We call on you now to join us in “40 Days of Prayer to Transform: A Journey to Newness.” Beginning December 12 and moving daily through January 20, members of the National Council of Churches and all communion partners will join in praying for hope, unity, and healing. During this Advent/Christmas season and into the New Year we put our hope in the ability and desire of God, through Jesus Christ, to heal and transform hearts and minds. We look for the Holy Spirit to breathe God’s newness into individual lives, faith communities, the soul of our nation, indeed, the whole world.
